Mike Skinner Artist’s Statement

Influential in Skinner’s work are such artists as Monet, John Singer Sargent, Joaquin Sorolla, Van Gough, Klimt and Gauguin. Also the ancient story tellers like the Hopi, Anasazzi and Fremont peoples who captured life on sandstone panels across the Americas.

Art connoisseurs have said “Michael Skinner’s work is bold and courageous and one of the finest bold impressionists anywhere.” The subjects of Skinner’s paintings are as diverse as the Native American petroglyphs to Hawaiian paradise – beaches and tropical floral along with California and Southern landscapes. Michael also has in the gallery beautiful colorful abstracts – but the "Skinner touch" is unmistakable in each of his works. The unique brush and knife strokes give Skinners work a look and feel all there own.

Strong contrast, bold use of color, and light with surface texture are hallmarks of Skinner’s paintings. He has a gift for observation and the ability to paint with both freshness and emotion. Michael Skinner paintings, which are featured in Fayetteville’s newest Gallery capture the moment of light that often reflects a story. They are described as colorful and passionate, warm and inviting and often, bold and courageous.

His work vary in size from 72 inches square to small 8 x 5 mounted pieces. In addition to his beautiful work in oil Skinner also works in sandstone and graphite.
